But She Had Love

But She Had Love

“Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little” (Luke 7:47).

Luke 7 invites us to dine at the table of contrast. We witness Christ in relation to two people, both equally loved by the One who sent His Son to dinner that night.
First we sit across from the Pharisee. Try to avoid stereotyping him. Many Pharisees were devoutly righteous men of God. Some were hypocrites, but others were genuine, striving desperately to keep the law. The Pharisee who invited Christ to dinner possessed volumes of scriptural knowledge. He could have recited literally hundreds of verses. He could have debated every Old Testament subject with intelligence and confidence. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was a good man—and probably a curious man.

The host and his guest scarcely had time to greet each other and get comfortable before an intruder walked through the door. The host was appalled that a woman of the streets would enter his home. Imagine his embarrassment when the uninvited guest got down on her knees, wept at Christ’s feet, and anointed them with perfume!

After delivering a mental verdict of “guilty” over her, the Pharisee placed Christ on the stand as well. He judged, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner” (Luke 7:39).

I wonder if just once the Pharisee had ever used the term to describe himself. You see, to a man who had lived a righteous life, the word never applied to him—always to someone else. The Pharisee could not comprehend the sinful woman’s actions because he could not comprehend the depth of her love. He had everything to offer Christ that evening: a spotless record, knowledge, stimulating conversation—but he had no love. She had nothing to offer Christ that evening but a terrible record. She was almost assuredly illiterate, and she couldn’t talk for crying.

But she had love.
We could interpret this encounter to mean the more we sin, the more we’ll love Jesus. It seems to support depraved living as the key to deep loving. Not so! The woman’s deep love did not flow from deep sin. It flowed from deep forgiveness. The level of intimacy her repentance required plummeted her to a depth of love. The Pharisee was also a sinner, but he was blinded by pride and strangled by self-righteousness. God’s mercy does not make sin tolerable; it makes sin forgivable.

But She Had Love

The proud and the depraved alike must kneel at the same feet for mercy.
For those willing, God turns sin’s empty cistern into a deep wellspring overflowing with love.
Do you have something in your life for which you feel God cannot forgive you?
Perhaps you cannot forgive yourself.
Open you heart to God’s forgiving, redeeming love.
He can forgive you—and He will—if you ask Him.
His Word declares it.

Just don't give up!

Just don't give up!

Psalm 31:24 “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord”

Various thoughts run through our minds every day—some good, some bad.
Our natural temptation is to focus on the bad, so accepting them doesn’t take any effort.
The effort comes in being determined to cast down the negative thoughts and take a firm grasp of the positive ones. Positive minds full of faith and hope produce positive lives.
The opposite is also true—negative minds full of fear and doubt produce negative lives,
which can ultimately destroy your life.
Some people have been hurt so many times that they don’t think they can face the pain of another letdown.
Therefore, they refuse to hope so they won't be disappointed. Battles are fought in our minds every day. When we begin to feel the battle is just too difficult and want to give up,
we must choose to resist negative thoughts and be determined to rise above our problems.
We must decide that we’re not going to quit.
When we’re bombarded with doubts and fears, we must take a stand and say:
"I’ll never give up! God’s on my side. He loves me, and He’s helping me! I’m going to make it!" No matter how bad the battle rages in your mind, don't give up!
Step out and regain the territory that’s been stolen from you.
Even if it’s only an inch at a time, make sure you’re leaning on God's grace and not on your own ability.
In Galatians 6:9 the apostle Paul simply encourages us to keep on keeping on!
Don't be a quitter! Don't have that old "give up" spirit.
God’s looking for people who will find the courage to rise above all the negative and pursue the positive. Whatever you may be facing or experiencing in your life right now,
I want to encourage you to stay positive and refuse to give up! God is with you,
and He’ll help you make spiritual progress—strengthening and encouraging you to keep on keeping on during rough times.
It's easy to quit, but it takes faith to press on to victory.
When the battle seems endless and you think you'll never make it,
remember that you’re reprogramming a "worldly" mind to think as God thinks.
In the same way that computers are programmed, our minds are programmed.
From the time we’re born, our minds are like computers that have had a lifetime of garbage programmed into them.
But God, who’s the best "computer programmer"
around, is working on us every day to reprogram our minds as we cooperate with Him (see Romans 12:2). This process of reprogramming or renewing our minds will take place little by little,
so don't be discouraged if progress seems slow. Don't get down when you have setbacks or bad days.
Just get back up, dust yourself off and start again.
When a baby is learning to walk, he falls many, many times before he develops the ability to walk without falling; however,
the baby is persistent. He may cry for a while after he falls down, but he always gets right back up and tries again. Learning to change our thinking works the same way.
There will be days when we don't do everything right—days when our thinking is negative.
But never stop trying. God is gradually bringing us around to His way of thinking.
Just don't give up!

May He Bless You and Keep You Today!

HOPE IS POSITIVE

HOPE IS POSITIVE

Proverbs 23:7 says, For as he [a person] thinks in his heart, so is he....

I define hope as "the happy anticipation of good things." Are you aggressively hoping for something good to happen to you? Do you wake up in the morning excited and expectant about life? You can do that by learning how to celebrate and enjoy this journey called life. Everything in life is a process in motion. Without movement, advancement and progression, there is no life. Once a thing has ceased to progress, it is dead. In other words, as long as we live, you and I are always going to be heading somewhere, and we should be enjoying ourselves on the way. God created us to be goal-oriented visionaries. Without a vision, we become bored and hopeless. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, according to,

Proverbs 13:12, but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

There's something about hope that makes people lighthearted and happy. You're not going to be happy if you don't have hope. The more hope you have in God, the happier you become. Biblical hope is a close relative to faith. I don't see how you can have faith without hope because hope is the foundation on which faith stands. Hope believes everything is going to turn out all right—hope is positive! To enjoy life you must maintain a good, positive attitude. God is positive, and He wants positive things to happen to each of us, but that isn't likely to happen if we're not filled with hope and faith. Some people are afraid to hope because they have experienced so much hurt and disappointment that they don't think they can face any more pain. They refuse to hope so they won't be disappointed. Disappointment is painful! Rather than being hurt again, they simply refuse to hope that anything good will ever happen to them. This type of behavior sets up a negative lifestyle. Everything becomes negative because their thoughts are negative.

Remember Hope Is Positive say this today and Everyday!

May He Bless You and Keep You Today!

HIS EARS ARE OPEN UNTO OUR PRAYERS

Have a Good Day with Jesus
Happy Passover

HIS EARS ARE OPEN UNTO OUR PRAYERS

Scripture: I Peter 3:12 "For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers."

There are many things in life that I do not understand, but I am not going to do without these things just because my understanding is limited. I could not tell you how the engine and all of the parts of an automobile work together, but I still plan to use my vehicle to get me to the places that I need to go. I can't explain the seasons and how the soil, water, and sunlight can make things grow, but I will continue to pant and expect my flowers to bloom. I don't understand computers, televisions, and radios, but I will use them anyway. And don't expect me to sit around in the dark just because I don't understand electricity. It's just not going to happen. I am going to use every tool that is available to me to enrich my physical life.

My thoughts about God and His words are the same. I can't explain God to you and tell you how prayer and obedience to God's words work. There is no reasonable explanation how Moses could stretch out his hand across the Red Sea and cause the waters to divide and the sea to become dry land (Exodus 14:21). Neither can I tell you how Joshua could march around the walls of Jericho for seven days and then give a shout that would make the walls come tumbling down (Joshua 6:20). Their victories came because of their obedience to God. There are many things about Jesus and the things that He did that are unbelievable. He healed the sick, caused the lame to walk, opened blinded eyes, raised the dead, walked on the water, calmed the seas with His word, and fed thousands of people with a meager supply of bread and fish. I can't explain any of these things to you, but I believe that they really happened and are true.

So it is with communication with God. I can't explain how we can live here on Earth and talk to God in Heaven any more than I can explain to you how I can live in Indiana and talk on the telephone to someone on the other side of the world. Both are beyond my own comprehension. Indeed, there are people who can explain the phone system and the other natural tools that we use, but no one can explain prayer, for it is supernatural. It is spiritual and simply cannot be explained in natural terms.

All we know is that when we talk to God, He has promised to hear us and answer our prayers. Don't get me wrong; God is not some sort of cosmic bellhop that we can order around. Neither does He grant our every petition in hopes of receiving a financial tip by our tithes or offerings to the church. So why should we pray? James 4:2-3 tells us, "You have not because you haven't asked for it ... You receive not when you ask amiss." Let us take these words to heart, and even though we may not understand how prayer works, let us talk to God and present our petitions to Him because we believe what the Apostle Peter said,

"His ears are open to our prayers."

Reach For The Things Before You

Reach For The Things Before You

Scripture: Philippians 3:13 "Forget the past ... reach to the future ... press toward the mark."

Jean-Pierre de Caussade in 'The Joy of the Saints' said, "To escape the distress caused by regret for the past or fear about the future, this is the rule to follow:

Leave the past to the infinite mercy of God,
The future to His good providence;
“Give the present wholly to His love by being faithful to His grace."

The Apostle Paul basically said the same thing. He said, "I am going to forget the things that are behind and reach for the things which are before me." As he forgot the past and looked with anticipation to the future, he made every moment of his life count by pressing towards the goal that was set before him. He spent no idle moments and left no stone unturned. When he was in prison, he didn't sit around and wait until he was released to do something for God. He diligently spent his time writing letters to instruct and encourage the saints in the ways of the Lord. Even when he was stoned and left for dead, Paul did not shrink back because of this horrific past event, but fearlessly got back into the arena and fought the good fight of faith.

These are such wise words, for even though we are living in the present, there is not a day that goes by that we do not reflect on the past or wonder about the future. As far as the past is concerned, we all have things that we regret, but there is no way to unscramble eggs or to change our histories. What is done is done and, like the Apostle Paul, we must forget the past and move on with our life. We cannot drag our past into the promise of our future, but must leave our regrets to the infinite mercy of God.

He tells us not to worry about our transgressions because He is not adding them up or holding them against us. In His heart, they are as far as the East is from the West. When we seek His forgiveness, He instantly erases our sins from His thoughts and never judges us harshly even though He, Himself, has never sinned. As God forgives us, we must forgive ourselves. It is interesting that those about us who have failed are the ones who continually hold us accountable for our past. Their memory seems to be short concerning their own failures, but very keen in remembering the past mistakes of others.

Our future is in God's hands and as God holds it before us, we must reach for it, believing that He has good plans or a good providence for us. There is nothing to fear, regardless of what we may face, for God is with us and He is in control. His will for our lives is sovereign and we must be faithful to submit to His plan with our whole heart. As we give the present season to Him and press forward towards the mark of His high calling on our lives, the door to our future will open before us and the fear of the unknown and the distress of the past will fade into obscurity.

May He Bless You and Keep You Today!

Lead Me Lord Just Lead Me

Scripture: Psalm 61:2 "From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I."
God made this day and we should rejoice and be glad in it, for He makes every day for our pleasure. Yet even though we know that this is true, we experience stress, disappointments, and things that we cannot fix or many times don't even understand. We approach the day with optimism, but amid the confusion we lose our sense of peace because our schedules become hectic and the issues that surround us become horrific. We must deal with illness, death, and situations in our relationships. There are also life changing decisions to be made and financial pressures to cope with. Many times these things leave our spirits totally overwhelmed.

However, God does not want us to be overwhelmed by any problem, regardless of whether it is large or small. He sent His Son so that we could live in peace and have true joy every day of the year. God's Son, Jesus, is the Rock that is higher than you or me and He is our strength and our security. He is the one we can run to and the one whom we can depend upon when our situations and emotions try to overpower and upset us.David declared that from the ends of the earth he would cry out to the Lord for help. He was at the end of his ordeal and he felt overwhelmed, but he had hope because he knew that there was one higher than himself. Yet, knowing about the Rock who is higher than us and any problem that we have and finding the Rock in times of pressure are two different things. David had a solution to this situation. He asked God to lead him to the Rock. David knew he would find peace and comfort in God's shelter, for God always met him at the level of his need. God will do the same for you and has given you His word of promise for peace and comfort. When you find your emotions stressed, your body wearied, and you are overwhelmed by any pressure, you can receive help by praying this same simple prayer that David prayed,
"Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I."

Allow The Holy Spirit To Ignite You

Allow The Holy Spirit To Ignite You

Scripture: Matthew 3:11 "Jesus shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire."

We all have experienced those special times when it seems that an eternal moment was birthed in our lives. It was a time when things just seemed to ignite and come alive. And even today, as we recall the memory of those times, our emotions manifest themselves as they did when the incidents happened. We laugh, we cry, or just enjoy the moment from the past. Such is the case when my father passed away at such a young age of 56. When I speak of him, I always recall the "out of the ordinary" things that happened in his life that brought us joy and laughter. I recall those moments as we fished, or how we shared such a bond of understanding, or experienced a family crisis. It was the igniting of these special moments that burned precious memories into my heart..

Think about Jesus who only lived thirty-three years on this earth. We've heard of the angels heralding His birth and of the wise men bringing Him gifts when He was about two years old. Then, we heard about Him as a twelve-year-old boy in the temple. Suddenly the voices were silent and many years passed with no information concerning Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God, even though He was the most important person who ever lived. He graced this Earth with His presence, yet it was only when the Holy Spirit ignited Jesus' life that His fame went out and His deeds and words were recorded.

As a born again believer, God has empowered you with His Spirit and with a fire that has the potential to ignite the moments in the lives of others. You have great potential. You are walking about on the earth like a match that is waiting to be struck. As the Holy Spirit wills, He ignites you for His service and moves through you to minister life and light to a darkened world. God has placed within you His kingdom which is "righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost" (Romans 14:17). You have an opportunity to share that kingdom and the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Allow the Holy Spirit to ignite and burn inside of you for the purposes of God. It will fascinate the world as a natural fire does, and will ignite an unforgettable and eternal moment in the lives of those you touch.

Do Not Shrink Against The enemy!

Do Not Shrink Against The enemy!
Run With God!

Scripture: I Samuel 17:48 "David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine."

David had no fear as he came against Goliath because his heart was full of faith. He refused Saul's armor and placed his confidence not in a big sword, but in a big God. David knew that the God he served could and would deliver him because this same God had fought David's battles before. David came against the giant in the Name of the Lord with a purpose and a cause. That cause was to stand against the spirit that was defiling the armies of the Living God. As David began to maximize and magnify God with his words, he minimized and diminished the giant that was challenging him. David did not shrink in the sight of the giant even though Goliath threw out frightening threats and disdaining accusations. Instead, David ran towards the giant and the Philistine army with great courage.

We are continually called to face giants in our lives whether they be in our homes or work places. There are situations that even come up with those that we love because the enemy is at work. He is still seeking to defile the people of God and their purposes. He makes his mission known with frightening threats and accusations in his effort to reduce us to nothing before the real battle even begins. The secret to our victory is the same as it was for David. We must have a cause and the Name of the Lord. We must rely upon what we know about God and His word and our purposes must line up with His will. We cannot rely upon someone else's armor, for it will be too weighty and unproved. We must come to believe so much in the Name of the Lord and His purpose that it becomes a power within us.

We cannot shrink back in our darkness and despair. We must be bold and run towards the enemy that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. God's word promises that if we resist the enemy, he must flee. He has no choice! David said that the battle was the Lord's and he relied totally on that premise. He did not rely on his own strength or ability. He allowed God to work through him with a simple sling and a stone against a mighty giant who held a huge spear, sword, and a shield. Yet David prevailed without a sword in his own hand. You may feel very inadequate as you come against the giants in your life. God may only provide you with meager weapons as he did with David. Your natural sling and stone may not look like very much as you view the spear, sword, and the shield of the enemy. However, you must not consider what you hold in your hand but what you hold in your heart, for God will honor your faith and your pure motives. Run with faith towards the enemy and God will stand with you as you fight for His cause and in His Name.
Do Not Shrink Against The enemy!
Run With God!
